Allen Leroy Britton

Allen LeRoy Britton, age 78, passed away on July 9, 2016 at his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born on May 22, 1938 in Pawling, New York to the late Raymond and Minerva (Pierson) Britton. Allen proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and then spent a 30 year career with Phillips Petroleum. He was passionate about volunteering and was active in the West End Optimist Club and the Special Olympics; in fact he was optimist of the year at one point. Allen spent a lot of time working at Dodge Park and Fox Run Golf Courses. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Jr., Edward, Francis, John, Howard, George, Ernest; sisters, Mary Thompson, Viola Childers, Sarah Lewis, Petra derBoghossian. Allen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Andrea Britton, Mark and Kristi Britton; daughter and son-in-law, Robbin and Jack Lawrence; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Edward Morris, Patricia and Bill Spinner; brother, Fredrick Britton; a host of other family and friends. Visitation is 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Friday at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Memorial service is 11:00a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. The family will direct memorials toward organizations Allen was passionate about.
