Barbara Ann (Boyd) Jerome was born at home in Council Bluffs Iowa on August 21, 1934 to the late Erskin and Mattie (Madsen) Boyd. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1952 and Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. Barbara started her teaching career at her alma mater Abraham Lincoln High School in 1956, teaching typing and shorthand. After staying home to raise her children for many years, Barb returned to school and received her certification to teach special education. She taught at Bloomer Jr High and retired from Thomas Jefferson High School.
Barb enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She enjoyed sewing most of her children’s clothes when they were growing up. She loved to help people and spent much of her retirement working in fan services for the Omaha Royals; ushering at the Orpheum and volunteering at Mercy Hospital. She loved to work at the College World Series and was an avid Kansas City Royals fan. Barbara and Lloyd spent many hours watching baseball together.
Barbara was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and they loved being with her. Her grandkids all knew she was just a phone call away and they loved spending the night or the weekend. Barb also loved to cook and the holidays were always spent baking cookies and candy and having fun together as a family. Barbara also enjoyed taking her kids and grandkids to the zoo as often as possible. Even though she never learned to swim herself, Barb made sure her kids took swim lessons at an early age and enjoyed spending summers at Cabana so that her kids could enjoy the pool.
Barb met her future husband, Lloyd at Lake Manawa where he was lifeguarding. Barbara was with her aunt when Lloyd showed an interest in her, knowing he was older, she told him to go home to his wife. Lloyd and Barbara were married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on May 18, 1956. They were blessed with two daughters, Mary Beth Hummel (James) and Lori Jerome and two sons, John Jerome (Erin) and Aaron Jerome. Barbara and Lloyd also have six granddaughters, Emily (Kyle), Ami (Ryan), Kathleen (Sean), Skylar, Alexis and Aubraya. One grandson Samuel and one great-grandson Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Jerome; parents; grandparents; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Delores Jerome, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Gene Sanders.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and was especially close to her granddaughters. She always had a smile and wanted to know what was new with everyone. Even as her health declined, Barb enjoyed living at Country House and was loved by everyone there. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
