Barbara Darrington

Barbara Darrington, age 92, passed away on November 22, 2024. 

She was born in Underwood, Iowa, on June 5, 1932, to Virgil and Hazel (Ricker) George. Barbara graduated from Underwood High School in 1950. After high school, she got engaged and then married Owen Darrington on February 11, 1951 before he was deployed. She eventually joined him in Alaska while he served his tour of duty with the United States Army.

When they returned to the Underwood area, they rented a farm and started farming. Barbara became a devoted housewife. They had three children, Lynell, Jolene, and Neil. She loved to cook, garden and care for her family. Pie baking and entertaining with her fine china were a couple of her specialties. She has passed her pie baking skills on to her kids, grandkids and great grandchildren.

Barbara was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church in Underwood. 

Barbara resided at Primrose Retirement Community for the last two years. She enjoyed her friends and many of the employees at her new home. Playing bingo and going on country drives were two of her favorite activities.

Barbara lived a simple life! She dearly loved her family and was a living example to all of us to keep Christ in our lives! She lived a good life!

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Owen in 2014.

Barbara is survived by two daughters, Lynell Vorthmann and her husband, Kirk, Jolene Lammert and her husband, Ron and a son Neil Darrington and his wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Kelby (Jennifer) Vorthmann, Kendell (Stephani) Vorthmann, Wade (Alisha) Vorthmann, Jacob (Rachel) Lammert, Josh (Morgan) Lammert, Jordan (Alex) Lammert, Adam (fiancé, Jenna) Darrington, Holly (Dylan) Miller, Heidi Darrington, Erik Darrington; 21 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Monday, November 25, 2024. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Interment will be in Grange Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Community of Christ Church in Underwood, Underwood Fire and Rescue or Westfair.
