Barbara Sue (Johnson) Godfrey, 80, of Logan, Iowa, passed away August 14, 2024, at CHI-Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Barbara previously lived in Belpre, Ohio, but she and her husband, Robert, moved to Nebraska to be close to their son. They later moved to their farm property in Iowa to enjoy a more rural life.
Barbara was born in Athens County, Ohio, the daughter of Ray R. Johnson and Garnet Hartman Johnson. Barbara excelled in her academics at Belpre High School, where she was salutatorian of her graduating class. She was voted "Most Likely to Succeed," and succeed she did. A graduate of Ohio Valley College, her first career was in banking, and she spent many years at Wood County Bank in Parkersburg, WV as Vice President. She later worked in the Academic and Student Affairs Department at Washington State Community College.
In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening and had both vegetable and rose gardens, and she was an expert seamstress and quilter. She was fond of music and listened to many genres, including rock and roll, bluegrass, country, and traditional gospel songs. Her favorite artist was Elvis, but she also loved the duo, Dailey and Vincent, Michael Martin Murphey, and Rhonda Vincent.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Robert, her brother, Harold, her son, Robert, Jr., her daughter-in-law, Chau, her daughter, Rebecca, her son-in-law, Kerry, her granddaughters, Lindsay and Alma, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barbara's family and her many friends will miss her warmth and thoughtfulness and her wonderful cooking and baking.
A Christian by faith, she will be buried in the Harris Grove Cemetery, across from the "Little White Chapel on the Hill" in Logan, Iowa.
The family wishes to thank CHI-Health Missouri Valley, CHI-Immanuel in Omaha, and Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home of Council Bluffs, Iowa for their loving care and their assistance with the graveside service.
Graveside Service will be held on Monday, August 19th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m at Harris Grove Cemetery.
