Barbara Lindsley

Barbara Jean (Schneiderwind) Lindsley died after a brief illness on April 11, 2024, at home in Council Bluffs, surrounded by her husband of 45 years, Terry, and her eight children, their spouses, and grandchildren. She was 88.

She is survived by husband Terry, brother Joe and sister Jean Schneiderwind, and children: Joe (Jennifer) Simon, Bob (Aldea) Simon, Carol (Bob) Kelly, Michael (Lorie) Simon, Jerry (Ronna) Simon, Bernie (Liz) Simon, Barbara (Margaret) Simon, Dan (Heidi) Simon, 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Agnes Rose (Sak) and W. James Schneiderwind, sisters Mary Ann Morris and Katherine Hibbison, brother Jim Schneiderwind, and grandsons Kale and Dana.

"Nonny" was the sun and moon for her family and all in her orbit of warmth, big hugs, and lightning quick wit.

After raising children and retiring from nearly 20 years at Iowa School for the Deaf, Barbara devoted herself to the Council Bluffs community. In 2018, she and Terry were honored with The Mercy Heritage Award for Arts and Humanities, recognizing their No One Dies Alone Program to be with patients in their final moments. Barbara also organized the book sale fundraiser for the Mercy Guild, and would curate and buy titles for her children, grands and teachers throughout the community.

Barbara was a graduate of Leadership Council Bluffs, a 15-year volunteer for the American Red Cross, and instructor for the Community Emergency Response Team, preparing volunteers to respond to disasters and support community-wide celebrations including the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). She was proud to have completed the longest RAGBRAI with her daughter Carol while in her fifties.

Visitation Monday, April 15th, 2024, beginning 10:00 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 a.m. at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the CHI Health Foundation.
