Betty Joslin

Betty Joslin, age 88, passed away January 23, 2024. She was born May 13, 1935 to John and Elizabeth Underwood on a farm near Neola, IA. Betty grew up in a home with no indoor toilet or running water, but Betty didn't feel deprived. She had her own horse, Queenie- she had many cherished memories of the horse Queenie. Betty lost her mother when she was 5 years old. Her Dad remarried when she was 8 her step mother was a wonderful lady in Betty's life. The family moved to Council Bluffs and Betty attended Bloomer elementary and graduated from Thomas Jefferson high school. She began babysitting when she was 11 and, at age 15, she started working at the Broadway Theater selling tickets. When she was 19 she began working for the telephone company. She was an operator for 5 years and then advanced to investigating. She continued to advance at the phone company and stayed with them for 36 years. She retired in 1990 when she got married. Her husband, Vern, passed in 2006 after 22 years of marriage. Betty also worked at Whites Bakery part time and in T.J.'s kitchen. Betty belonged to a bowling league and enjoyed going to dances.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Joslin; and her brothers and sisters.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Patomson; 4 grandchildren, Raymond Patomson, Ruby Patomson, Rowan Patomson, and Kristen Joslin; 1 great-grandchild, Aurora; nieces and nephews and a host of other family, including Vern's children, and friends.

Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, January 28, 2024. The family will direct memorials.
