CARL ?CORKY? NIXON Carl L. Nixon, age 71 of Council Bluffs went home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2012. He was born January 25, 1941 in Smithland, Iowa to the late William W. and Opal F. (Zimmer) Nixon. Carl served his Country in the United States Army from 1963-1965 and during that time he was a member of one of the ten Army Honor Guard Units assigned to the grave of President Herbert Hoover at West Branch, IA. He had retired in 2000 as a lineman foreman with Mid-American Energy after 31 years. He was a member of Crossroads Christian Center (formerly Full Gospel Assembly). One of his favorite scriptures was Matthew 6:33 ?But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.? He loved to camp and fish and spent many happy hours at Lake Icaria in Corning, Iowa. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and especially his grandchildren that he loved so much. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father, Maxfield McLean; 3 brothers, Carver, Clifford and Chuck; sisters, Ruth and Florene; father-in-law, Stanley Riche. Carl is survived by his wife, Sharon (Riche) Nixon to whom he had been married 46 years; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Jenny Nixon and their children, Kyler and Treyton of Council Bluffs and Kevin and Stephanie Nixon and their children, Dalton, Bailey and Sadie of Orem, Utah; sister and brother-in-law, Sharron and Dick Hoover of Hesperia, CA; mother-in-law, Lois Riche of Council Bluffs; sister-in-law, Barbara Orton and her husband, Dan; a host of other family and friends. Visitation is Sunday 4-6PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Monday 11AM at the funeral home. Interment is in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Rainbow Post #2. A reception will follow in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. Memorials are suggested to Hospice with Heart.
