Charles Robert Clark passed away peacefully on November 19, 2022, at the age of 77. Born on December 10, 1944, in McArthur, Ohio, he is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Clifford Clark and Leta Allen Trowbridge Clark and a half sister Shelby Owsley.
He attended McArthur High School and graduated in 1962. He attended Rio Grande
College in southeast Ohio, graduating in 1966. In 1972, he entered the United States
Navy, serving most of his time in Naples, Italy. After his years in the Navy, in 1978, he
moved to San Jose, California, where he worked for Southern Pacific, Amtrak and
CalTrain, a California commuter rail line serving the San Francisco Peninsula and Santa
Clara Valley. He spent about twenty years in California then moved to St. Louis, Missouri,
where he worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a Customer Service Representative-
Operations. In 2004 he moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and continued with Union Pacific.
He retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2013.
He is survived by his sister Connie Wollett and his brother David Clark, whose wife Ann
passed away on February 3, 2020. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by a long-time friend and neighbor, Richard Olsen, who was also a kind and generous caregiver. One cousin, Brenda Slavens, who was a friend as well, also survives. Charles was never married and had no children but he loved cats and had many, many cats over the years and could tell you about each one and their individual personalities. Starting as a child he always loved his flowers, his favorite being Anthurium and Orchids, as well as African violets. He definitely had a green thumb. Charles lived, and enjoyed, a quiet,solitary life, just him, PBS, and his cup of coffee.
Charles will be buried in Omaha National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.
