Chris A. Petroff

Chris A. Petroff, age 95, passed away peacefully with his wife, Donna by his side on September 18, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Home, where he had resided the past three months. He was born January 6, 1920 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to the late Sam and Nora (Foreman) Petroff. He attended school in Missouri Valley and then worked for the Chicago and North Western Railroad. He joined the United States Army during World War II and served with the 727th Railway Operating Battalion. He served 3 ½ years and his battalion was constantly bombed during battles in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany right through the wars end. Chris was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Honey Creek, Iowa. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie in 1981; brother, Albert Petroff; twin step-daughters, Gloria Honea and Donna Shreeves; step-son, Randall Schafer. Chris is survived by his wife, Donna Petroff; step-daughters, Connie Zimmerman, Kristi Jensen (Darol), Mindy Bonnet (Mike); step-son, Jeff Schafer (Amy); grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday September 25, 2015 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Honey Creek. Funeral service will start at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be later that afternoon in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Johns Lutheran Church.
