With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Claudene Sue Yost, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left this world on February 27, 2024.
Claudene was born on October 4, 1939, in Manhattan, KS, to Stephen and Patricia (Allingham) Delladio. She graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, CA in 1957. On June 22, 1958, she married the love of her life, Don Yost, whom she met on a blind date. Their first year of marriage was spent in Honolulu, Hawaii, where Don was stationed in the Navy. They later moved back to California, started their family, and in 1963, decided to make 713 Hazel Street in Council Bluffs, IA, their home for over 40 years while raising their 3 beautiful children.
In the early 1970s, Claudene and Don embarked on a new venture, opening Don's Foreign Motors - Vee Dub Specialist, a business that became a community fixture for 35 years. Claudene was a dedicated member of the American Businesswomen's Association Charter Chapter, serving as the recording Secretary. In addition to her role in the family business, she worked as an administrative assistant at Buena Vista and served as an accountant in the Food Services Department at Creighton University until her retirement in 2004. Claudene's commitment to her community extended to volunteering at Jennie Edmundson Hospital for many years.
Claudene is survived by her son, Jay (Bonny) Yost of Flower Mound, TX, and daughter Kelly Mehsling of Council Bluffs, IA. She leaves a lasting legacy in the hearts of her 8 grandchildren: Alicia (Isaiah) Grace of Omaha, NE, Tayler (Taylour) Sousa of Council Bluffs, IA, Whitney Mehsling of Aurora, CO, Payton Mehsling of Omaha, NE, and Zoey, Hoyt, Wyatt, and Skylar Yost of Flower Mound, TX. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Joslyn Grace, Kobe Bowman, Karter Bowman, Kemma Grace, and Kenley Grace.
Claudene was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Patricia Delladio; her husband of 47 years, Donald Yost; her eldest son, Kevin Yost, and her brother, Steve Delladio.
Claudene found immense joy in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She cherished attending their sporting events and dance recitals, putting together picnics in the backyard, and playing outside with her grandchildren. An avid Husker Football fan, she reveled in spending summers with her family at their cabin in Schuyler, NE. Family was everything to her, and she never missed a moment.
Services to celebrate Claudene's life will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at 1 pm at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Council Bluffs Library.
The family expresses gratitude for the support and condolences during this challenging time.
Claudene's legacy of love, dedication, and compassion will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
