Connie Zimmerman

Connie Zimmerman, age 75, passed away September 30, 2024. She was born on March 24, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was the daughter of Wayne and Donna (Tracy) Schafer. Connie's life was a tapestry woven with love, creativity, and community. She attended Thomas Jefferson Highschool and called Council Bluffs home until she married in 1968. Home moved to Lincoln, NE , Roselle, Illinois then Omaha before returning to Council Bluffs.

A dedicated student, Connie attended Iowa Western Community College and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business in 1984, where she proudly maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA and was recognized as the top student. Her professional journey included eight years in the insurance field with AAA and a fulfilling 21-year career as a Compliance Director at Vertrue, both in Omaha. Connie's spirit shone brightly through her hobbies and passions. She had a talent for decorating, especially for various holidays, and spent many years crafting and participating in craft shows throughout the Midwest alongside her close friend, Carol Miller-Dorsey. An avid reader of mysteries, particularly enjoying the works of James Patterson, Connie also had a love for classic films and musicals. Family gatherings often included card games and lively conversations, all enriched by her warm presence.

Reflecting on her life, Connie treasured memories of feeding chickens and gathering eggs as a child, celebrating Christmas Eves with her family, and joyful days spent in Carroll, Iowa, with loved ones. She made significant contributions to her community by establishing a daycare center in Illinois, where she worked closely with local family services to ensure the care and development of children.

Connie's greatest life lessons revolved around kindness, generosity, and the importance of helping others. She hoped to be remembered as a caring individual who enjoyed surprising others with small gifts and planning memorable gatherings. Her legacy lives on in the love she shared with her family and the countless lives she touched.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Tyler Zimmerman; grandson, Nic Zimmerman; and brother, Randy Schafer.

Connie is survived by her daughter, Keri (Rolf) Mikkelsen; bonus daughter Sarah Centineo, grandchildren; Jolie, Tristan, Montana "Tana", Montgomery "Coltyn"; sisters, Kristi (Darol) Jensen, Mindy (Mike) Bonnet; brother, Jeff (Amy) Schafer; great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
