David Robert Peterson, age 89, passed away on July 28, 2024 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He was born December 14, 1934, to the late Robert and Mildred (George) Peterson in Perry, IA. He graduated with the Perry High class of 1954, where he excelled in many sports. On December 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Juanita (Diddy), his high school sweetheart in Perry.
Dave and Juanita made their way to Council Bluffs a few years later, where he opened a State Farm Insurance office, established deep roots in the community and raised their three children, Deb, Jan and Dan. He was an agent for 40 years, retiring in 1997.
He had a lot of various interests throughout his lifetime. He started trapping and hunting in his early years, following his fathers' passion for these adventures. He loved horse racing, and was an avid runner as he ran many marathons throughout the country. He also worked many hours in, and took a lot of pride in his flower garden. His collection of golf balls grew very large over the years. He was the ultimate "finder" of perfect golf balls that people lost, giving hundreds away to friends and area school golf teams. Dave was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a former Lewis Central School board member and president. He also enjoyed his many years as an Optimist Club member.
Dave and Juanita were very fortunate to do a lot of traveling home and abroad, and especially enjoyed their home in Scottsdale during the cold Iowa winters.
His biggest love was his family. He was very proud of them and they always came first. He very rarely missed an activity that his children, grandkids or great-grandkids participated in!
Dave is pre-deceased by his parents, brother Fred Peterson and niece Lisa.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife Juanita, the love of his life for 69 years, his children Deb (Fred) Hill of Council Bluffs, Jan Peterson of Omaha, and Dan (Michelle) Peterson of Scottsdale, Arizona. His grandchildren, Jason Hill (Ben Mallott), Trenton Hill (Miki), Ryan Youtz, Kristyn Hill (Joey George), Brandon Frink (Anne), Lauren Hawkins (Jason), Remington Peterson, Ellie Fike (Logan), and Owen Barbisan. His seven great-grandsons, Broxton Hill, Maxton Hill, Declan Hill, Callen Hill, Reuben Youtz, Caleb Frink, and Emerson Hawkins. Also, his brother Don Peterson and wife Sandy, sister-in-law Mary Peterson, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends rounding out those that will miss him dearly.
