Dean Herrick

Dean Herrick, age 93, passed away on November 9, 2016.

He was born in Underwood, Iowa, on February 15, 1923, as one of nine children to the late Charlie “Pete” and Margaret (Duchman) Herrick. Dean proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. During his service he spent time in France, Aleutian Islands, Belgium, Kodiak, England and Amchitka, Alaska. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars. Dean retired from the Union Pacific Railroad as a mail handler after 38 years. He also worked for Paulson Construction for 17 years as a mechanic.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Herrick to whom he’d been married for 68 years when she passed away in 2015; brothers, Charles “Bud” Herrick and Dale Herrick; sisters, Ilene Herrick, Adalene Rhoades, Betty Frenchin and Verle Suntken; son-in-law, Leroy Franks.

Dean is survived by his daughters, Deana Ilderton and her husband, Al, Ellen Franks; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Janie Herrick, Ron and Maureen Herrick; brother and sister-in- law, Bob and Helen Herrick; sister, Bonnie Wheeldon; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Sunday, at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is 2 p.m., on Monday at the funeral home. Interment is in Walnut Hill Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
