Donald J. Diwoky, age 92 of Omaha passed away August 6, 2013 at his home. He was born in Council Bluffs on May 29, 1921 to the late Edward and Reba (Semmons) Diwoky. Don graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1938 and then served his country during World War II as a submarine baker in the United States Navy. He worked in and owned several Council Bluffs restaurants such as the Golden Horse, Ewalds Drive-In and D.J.s before entering public service as the Clerk of the District Court for Pottawattamie County, Iowa. He served several terms until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked for the familys business, Sunset Speedway and was a friendly face greeting the competitors every Sunday night as they entered the Pit Gate. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy; brother, Robert. Don is survived by his wife of 72 years, Almeda; daughter, Sharon Kelley; grandsons, Craig Kelley (Kerry) and Michael Kelley (Leesa); great grandchildren, Christopher, Brendan and Caitlin Kelley. Memorial service is Friday 4PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Saint John Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs.
