Doris Elaine Rodenburg was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 6, 1923 to Hans and June (Burwick) Christensen. Doris died on March 19, 2017 at Midlands Living Center, Council Bluffs where she had lived since April 2014. Doris graduated from Underwood High School in 1940. She married Max W. Rodenburg at Neola, Iowa in 1942 and they raised five children on a farm near Neola. Doris worked at the Mercy Hospital as a pharmacy tech for 15 years retiring in 1986.
During her adult life, she enjoyed cooking, baking, playing games with the kids, writing poetry, doing crafts, drawing and living on the farm, and most of all raising her children and helping with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bryce and Bernard Christensen.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Chet) Chickering of Frisco, Texas, Jon Rodenburg, Diana(Gale) Bintz, Ric (Patti) Rodenburg and David (Christy) Rodenburg all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Lori (Jerry) Stewart, Krissy (Scott) Hraha, Jeff (Julie) Rodenburg, Dena (John) LeCompte, Jill (Russ) Hays, Jani (Bob) Mings, Jeni (Andy) Sondag, Rikki (Nick) Ziska, Rebeka (Mike) Whitman, Jennifer (Tim) Schultz, Kristy (Bryan) Svajgl, Corey Backenstose, Ryan Rodenburg and Ashley Rodenburg; twenty eight great grandchildren; sisters in law, Marie Lou Christensen and Charlotte Christensen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A visitation will begin at 5:00p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00p.m. on Friday April 21, 2017 at the Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. The family will direct memorials. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Midlands Living Center and Hospice of Southwest Iowa for their loving care of Doris.
