Dorothea A. Anderson

October 24, 1927 — May 10, 2019

Dorothea Ann (Armstrong) Anderson was born October 24, 1927 to Archie and Anna (Sillau) Armstrong in Sidney, Iowa. She was raised in Logan and graduated from Logan High School. Dorothea taught in country schools, (Carroll, Iowa) and worked in the library at UNO while studying for her teaching degree. She was invited by a friend to apply for a third grade teaching job in Aurora, Colorado and taught in the Aurora School District for 35 years.

While in Aurora, she met Carl E. Anderson and they were married on June 9, 1961 at the First Christian Church in Denver, Colorado. Dorothea and Carl lived their 38 years of marriage in the house Carl built on the east side of Denver.

Dorothea and Carl were devoted Denver Bronco fans, enjoyed dancing at Elitch Gardens, dining at The Swedish Club, and traveling. Dorothea kept their yard green, canned vegetables from their garden, and enjoyed the peaches they picked and canned from the other side of the mountain pass.

After Carl’s passing in 2000, Dorothea moved to the community of Heather Gardens in Aurora and several years later moved to Council Bluffs. Dorothea changed her church membership to the First Christian Church and was active in Bible study and senior activities. In 2013, Dorothea moved to Primrose Retirement Community where she was proud to be chosen as an Ambassador, attending the group’s activities and helping with community events. She passed away at Primrose on May 10, 2019.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; and three sisters, Elaine Armstrong, at the age of 2, Wanda Nelson, and Marian Sexton.

She is survived by one sister, Doris Wipperling, of Council Bluffs; nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews; friends from her college and teaching days; friends from Colorado and Iowa; and Zoe.

The funeral service is Tuesday, 5:30 p.m., at the Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. Visitation is during the half hour prior to the service. She will be interred in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church’s Building Fund.
