Dorothy A. Palmer-Swig

Dorothy A. Palmer-Swig, age 92, of Council Bluffs passed away April 7, 2015 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. She was born in Carson, Iowa on April 24, 1922 to the late Ray C. and Ada A. (Killion) Elswick. Dorothy was a farm wife, worked at the Boy Scouts of America, in sales at Conn Organ Store and at the fragrance counter at Younkers. She played the piano and organ mostly by ear and attended concerts and the symphony. She enjoyed reading, socializing with family and friends and entertaining in her home. She was also longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy (GG to her great grands) was a great cook and all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren especially loved her baked mac and cheese. While at home we kids remember her chocolate cake with fudge frosting. She was a very classy lady, always dressed very well and was an avid college sports fan. She attended the College World Series and was a huge Creighton and Duke basketball fan. Dorothy was very independent and lived in her own home until February of this year. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen D. Palmer; daughter-in-law, Freda Palmer; brothers, Harold and Kenneth Elswick; infant great grandson, Palmer Joseph Lees. Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda Kitta and her husband Joe of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Craig Palmer and his wife Judy of Dunlap, Tennessee, Marsha Lees and her husband Joe of Emerson, Iowa; sister, Betty Smith; sister-in-law, Eloise Elswick; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Open visitation all day Friday. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow the service in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. Interment is later that afternoon in the Wheeler Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the charity of your choice.
