Douglas B. Lloyd

November 24, 1948 — July 21, 2022

Douglas B. Lloyd of Bennington, Nebraska; formerly of Crescent, Iowa; died after a short and incredibly courageous battle with cancer on July 21, 2022 in his home, surrounded by his wife and sons.

Douglas was born November 24, 1948, to Dale and Shirley (Ball) Lloyd in Omaha, Nebraska. Doug and his first wife, Bobby Lycan, were blessed by two sons, Dustin and Jason. As the boys were growing up, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with them. These sports became life-long passions they shared. He also coached their little league teams and enjoyed being active in all their sports and school activities.

He became employed with the Omaha Fire Department in 1971. As a member of the OFD, he served as a Firefighter, Fire and Paramedic Captain and an Arson Investigator. His last assignment was House Captain at fire station 23 before his retirement in 1999.

In 1998 he and Julee Harter became engaged. Not believing in short engagements, they married 15 years later in 2013. Through illness and injuries, their love continued to grow, they were each other's best friend.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, brother Keith, and bonus daughter Anne Harter.

He is survived by his wife, Julee; his sons Dustin (Janine) Lloyd and their boys Devon and Logan; and Dr. Jason (Heather) Lloyd and their daughters, Hadley and Barrett and son Jens; his bonus son Brian (Heidi) Harter and their daughters, Payton, Rylee, and Camryn "Bubba." He is also survived by his brother Mark (Molly), mother Shirley, and sisters-in-law, who were more like siblings, Jan Westermann and Keri (Kent) Noel. It is sad to only list by title his cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles because he loved them all.

Per Doug's wishes, he will be cremated. Inurnment will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa. There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
