Eileen M. Galiher, 69, of Honey Creek, Iowa passed away peacefully July 25, 2012, in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born April 10, 1943 in Portsmouth, Iowa to Willard and Lillian (Galiher) Schechinger. The oldest of four daughters, she graduated from ALHS in 1961 and spent the majority of her career as a locomotive engineer for UPRR. In retirement, she devoted much of her time to many clubs, including Red Hat Society, UP Employees Club #61, Past President National UPEC, NARVE, Joker’s Wild Card Club and various quilting clubs. She often volunteered as a docent at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs. Mom could create anything with her hands. Her legacy lives on in the many afghans, quilts and carefully designed crafts given to her family and friends. She loved Christmas, shopping, entertaining friends, and most of all, she treasured time with her grandchildren. She is survived by daughters Denise (Gary) Christiansen, Vicki (Dan)Overly; grandchildren Chelsea, Matt, Lauren, Logan and Erin; great-grandson, Tyson; mother Lillian Schechinger; sisters Colleen Hood, Dorothy Koch and Shirley(Larry) Gift and many extended family members. She is preceded in death by her father, Willard Schechinger. The family wishes to thank the staff at UNMC for their loving care of our mother during her brief illness. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home with a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the Hoy-Kilnoski Community Room. Memorials are suggested to the UP Railroad Museum, Friend-to-Friend Network, or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
