Ellen Elizabeth Dugan

Ellen E. Dugan, age 70, of Council Bluffs passed away November 29, 2013. She was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on January 8, 1943 to the late Lloyd Carlton & Ellen Elizabeth (Byrnes) Sprague. Ellen was very active in the community. She had earned a Masters Degree from Creighton University and spent 33 years as an elementary school teacher. She was an usher for the Performing Arts Center at Iowa Western, one of the Heartland Hosts through the Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce and at one time held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was on the board of directors for Chanticleer Theater among many other things. Ellen was a member of New Horizon Presbyterian where she also served as a Deacon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Lois and granddaughter, Melanie Koontz. Ellen is survived by her children, Jeff Koontz (Tami), Andrew Koontz (Michelle), Wendy Ann Koontz; sister and brother-in-law, Jane & Ron Goin; niece, Candace Coen; special grandchildren, Cheyenne Hanson, Jake Brown and Thomas Brown; other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends. Visitation is Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Tuesday 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment is in the Garner Township Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. Memorials are suggested to New Horizon Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
