Elmer Barritt

Elmer D. Barritt, age 99 years and 9 days passed away May 4, 2024 in Cherokee, IA.

He was born in Council Bluffs to the late Bennie and Lottie (Vallier) Barritt. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, with the Class of 1944. Elmer served his country in the U.S. Army, during World War II. He married Joyce (Goldapp) on January 19, 1946 and were married for 70 years at the time of her passing. Elmer worked for 34 years for the U.S. Postal Service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; sisters, Lois of Persia, IA and Phyllis Rajcevick, of Council Bluffs.

He is survived by three sons, Randy (Linda) Barritt of Council Bluffs, Ronny Barritt of Moorehead City, NC, and Todd Barritt of Council Bluffs; daughter, Lori (Ryan) Kolpin of Aurelia, IA; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Eli Rajcevick of Council Bluffs; cousins; nieces; and nephews.

Per Elmer's wishes, a private family graveside farewell will be conducted at Hazel Dell Cemetery.
