Eloise B. Haight

August 29, 1926 — March 5, 2019

Eloise Billie Haight was born in Shelby, Iowa on August 29, 1926. She was the daughter of Roy & Alma Jensen Kirkpatrick and the oldest of seven siblings. She attended Shelby School and upon graduation worked at Council Bluffs Saving Bank.

Eloise was united in marriage to Leo Haight on February 4, 1948 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and they made their home in the Minden area. Eloise and Leo had four daughters. Eloise was a loving mother and homemaker. Leo and Eloise owned and operated Minden Pump Co. and Eloise also worked at the Minden Meat Market. Her family were members of the Minden United Church of Christ and Eloise was active with Cornerstone and Women’s Fellowship. Eloise was also a member of the Minden American Auxiliary. During their retirement years, Leo and Eloise moved and built a home in Sedona, Arizona. Ten years later, they returned to live in Minden and Eloise enjoyed volunteering at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. In 2016, Eloise moved from her home to Avoca Lodge Assisted Living and shortly thereafter to Northcrest Living Center until her passing.

Eloise always found time to be a good friend and neighbor. She enjoyed playing bridge, outings with the Friendly Links Club and “Sisters Day” with her sisters. Eloise also enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and was known for her delicious pies!

Eloise passed away March 5, 2019 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Haight of Minden, Iowa; her parents, Roy and Alma Kirkpatrick of Shelby Iowa; siblings and their spouses, Dale “Mike” Kirkpatrick of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Calvin “Cobby” Kirkpatrick and his wife Neta Kirkpatrick of Scottsbluffs, Nebraska; Irene Shriver and her husband Ralph Shriver of McClelland, Iowa, Janie Meyer and her husband Dick Meyers of Avoca, Iowa, Joann Miller and her husband Fritz Miller of Avoca, Iowa; and brother-in-law Mike Michaelson of Walnut, Iowa.

Eloise is survived by her children, Linda and husband Roy Huffman of Ocean Park, Washington, Ginny and husband Terry Meek of Rogers, Arkansas, Rita Hood of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Sandy and husband Kelly Cline of Surprise, Arizona; her sister Jeanette “Nettie” Michaelson of Walnut, Iowa; her sister-in-law Vesta Kirkpatrick of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Eloise was lovingly known as “Aunt Penny” by her many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be May 18th, 2:00, at Minden United Church of Christ, Minden, Iowa. Memorials can be sent to Minden United Church of Christ, Northcrest Living Center, EveryStep Hospice and/or Jennie Edmundson Hospital Foundation.
