Eric George Rogers, 66, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away peacefully with his daughter, Meagan, by his side after a courageous, sudden, yet aggressive battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Council Bluffs, Eric dedicated his life to serving his community as a Pottawattamie County Deputy Sheriff until his retirement in 2011. Known for his sharp wit and big heart, he was the friendliest grumpy man you'd ever meet-quick with a joke, a story, or a grumble that somehow still made you smile. He had a way of turning strangers into friends and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Eric was an avid golfer, happiest when he was out on the course with friends, chasing that perfect round. A die-hard Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he never missed a game and was always ready to debate the latest play.
Above all, Eric was a devoted father to his daughter, Meagan Holzapfel-who always regarded him as her hero and protector-and loving father-in-law to Zach Holzapfel. He is also survived by his brother, Scott Rogers, and sister, Elisse Fiala, who will forever cherish his memory.
Eric's humor, kindness, and undeniable presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His family and friends find comfort in knowing that he's now playing the best round of golf imaginable, with the perfect swing and an endless fairway ahead.
Memorial visitation and Celebration of his life will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, March 2, 2025. In lieu of flowers, his daughter asks that you take a moment to enjoy a round of golf, cheer for the Hawkeyes or share a laugh in his honor.
