Ethel Viola Anderson

Ethel “Viola” Anderson, 96 years, died Thursday evening at the Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born in Crescent, Iowa to Frederick and Grace Ann (Smith) Bird. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1937. She worked 28 years for Walgreen Drug as head cashier/ bookkeeper retiring in May 1982. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John W. Anderson in 1998; her brothers, George Bird and his wife, Ruby and Fred Bird, Jr; her sisters, Thelma and husband Harold Rief, Lillian and Leslie Gordon, Gladys and Folmer Jensen; her son in law, Richard Moats; brothers in law, Robert Heath, William Spitznagle and Nyal Weatherill.

She is survived by her sons, Donald and Janet Anderson, Dennis and Nancy Anderson; her daughter, Jacqueline Moats; sisters, Norma Heath, Ione Spitznagle and Lucille Weatherill; brothers, Melvin (Kaye) and Robert (Genevieve) Bird; sister in law, Thelma Bird; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Monday evening between the hours of 6 and 8PM at the Hoy – Kilnoski Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday 10AM at the Emanual Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Emanuel Lutheran Church
