George W. Heywood

George W. Heywood, age 79, passed away May 8, 2019.

He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 22, 1940 to the late William and Bertha (Neve) Heywood.

George was a man of all trades who always provided for his family. He also took in many that needed a home. He dug graves, and was a union carpenter. He built churches, bridges, and many buildings in Omaha. He then started his own construction company and sold Health Craft cookware which allowed him and his wife to travel to many places. Before retiring, he had a business which he called Grandpa’s Tree Service.

His favorite joke was: Why do milk cows wear bells? Because their horns don’t work!

He loved God; his wife, Dorothy; and his grandchildren. He was a man who loved to help his family. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Paul Heywood; siblings, Bill, Chuck and Jim Heywood, Hazel Wayman, Ruth Flanagan and Jane Mabbitt.

George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Heywood; children, George Heywood Jr. (Jocelyn), Cindy Clum (Mitch), Kimberly Torrey (Jerry), Michael Heywood (Lisa) and Eugene Flanagan (Pam); siblings, Davey Heywood (Cindy), Gail Heywood (Linda), Les Heywood (Sharon), Kenny Heywood (Barb), Mary Lewis (Verdell), Darlene Lussier (Ray), Marge Robak, Janice Page, Wilma Gidican and Charlotte Smith; 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Visitation is 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Interment is in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
