Glen Oliver Hipnar of Shelby, Iowa, age 87, passed away February 13, 2020.
He was born on August 17, 1932 to the late Carl and Meta (Luth) Hipnar in Walnut, Iowa.
Glen graduated from Hancock High School with the class of 1952. Shortly after graduation, Glen started working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a material handler. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1954 and much of that time was spent in Germany as a supply clerk. After Glen’s honorable discharge in May of 1956 he returned to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. On August 5, 1956, Glen was united in marriage to Marlene Mattox at the Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. Glen was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Shelby.
Glen’s interests were anything to do with machinery and his many tractors that he collected over the years. He also enjoyed farm auctions where he would find a bargain or two. He belonged to two tractor clubs and enjoyed many tractor rides. He was a dedicated member at the Carsten’s Farm and also loved working at the Farmall Land Museum in Avoca.
In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his daughter, Patti Whitmore; brothers, Don Hipnar and Larry Hipnar. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marlene Hipnar; daughter, Cindy Elseman (Ed); son, Dave Hipnar (Pam); grandchildren, Andy Hipnar (Kelsey); Molly Trotter (Mark); Jolene Whitmore (Jake Baden); Tom Whitmore (Halie); great-grandchildren, Gavin Hipnar; Hayden Hipnar; Kallen Hipnar; Brayden Whitmore; a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation is 9:00-10:30 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the United Lutheran Church in Shelby. Memorial Service is 11AM on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Church. Luncheon to follow after the memorial service at the Shelby Community Building. Please follow Glen’s tractors to the Community Building. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Shelby Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
