Hazel Schnieder, age 102, passed away May 22, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Home. She was born on March 15, 1915 at home, east of Corley, IA to Ernest and Mamie (Ingrews) Hansen. She attended country school through 8th grade. Hazel helped her parents on the farm until her marriage to George Knudsen on December 20, 1934. They farmed in Shelby County most of their married life, moving to Council Bluffs in 1960. Upon George’s passing, she married Howard Schnieder in 1977. Hazel enjoyed her family, her many pets over the years, gardening, canning, making homemade bread, loved to dance, and socializing until the end, even dancing on her 100th birthday.
Hazel is proceeded in death by her parents, husband George in 1976, husband Howard in 2011, son Delmar Knudsen, great-grandson Joshua Potter, son-in-law Leonard Powell, son-in-law Jerry McIntosh, sister Alvina Jacobsen, brothers Walter Hansen and Dewey Hansen.
Survived by daughter, Marjorie Powell-McIntosh, daughter-in-law, Carol Knudsen; grandchildren, Kathy Potter, Julie (Kevin Carroll) Powell, Bryan (Joanne) Knudsen, Rhonda (Jim) Kilday, Lisa (Mark) Elliott; 5 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, 9 to 11AM at the Hoy – Kilnoski Funeral Home.
Funeral service will begin at 11AM. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa.
The family will direct the memorials.
