She was married to Calvin H. Bryson just 13 days after they graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in June of 1943. They had been married 60 years when Calvin was killed in an automobile accident.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, beloved husband Calvin, son Kevin and daughter in law Linda Bryson as well as four siblings, Roy Carter, Ralph Carter, Theol Hilz and Jack Carter. She was the middle child and the last survivor.

She was a stay-at-home Mom, Aunt and grandma to not only her biological children and grandchildren but also nieces, nephews and many other children. She had a hand in the nurturing of many children, many  of whom called her grandma.

She was a 69 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She belonged to the Methodist Church but was brought up in whatever church was the closest to where they were living.  She and Calvin were married in the Church of the Brethren.
