Helen Waugh

Helen Joanne (Christensen) Waugh, age 91, passed away on October 3, 2024. She was born on March 28, 1933 to Chris and Mabel (Madison) Christensen in Council Bluffs, IA. She was married to Frank M. Waugh until his passing in 1987. Helen and her significant other, Dwane Kraay were together until his passing in 2021.

Helen is survived by her son, David (Carol) Waugh of Council Bluffs; daughter, Karen (Claud) Hanes of Ft. Lupton, Co; granddaughter, Meghan (Cameron) Orr of Eaton, CO; grandson, Justin (Katrina) Korth of a Delta, CO; and 3 great-grandsons: Colton Orr, Jaxson and Kase Korth; and many other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 5 sisters: Chris (Myrta) Christensen, Howard (Jean) Christensen, Donald (Laurene) Christensen, Robert Christensen Sr., Agnes (Jim) McManus, Marian (Guy) Hall, Arieta (Lee) Jenkins, Clara (Francis) Horan and Mabel (Art) Bandomer.

Helen always enjoyed working with the public. She started in the Credit Department of Peoples store in Council Bluffs. After 11 years there, she worked for Griffin Pipe Products for 30 years. During that time, she also worked weekends and holidays at AK-Sar-Ben Racing in the Mutual Windows. After retiring from Griffin Pipe, Helen Continued working with the public as a cage cashier for Bluffs Run Casino for the next 22 years. Many millions of dollars passed through her hands and she met and enjoyed thousands of nice and interesting people, both as customers and co-workers.

Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m on Monday, October 14, 2024 at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home. The family will direct memorials.
