Jackie Jo Hargis

Jackie Jo Hargis, age 87, passed away on January 20, 2024 at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home.

She was born September 17, 1936 to Dean P. and Alda Ruth (McKinley) Schuler on the farm near Griswold, IA.

Jackie was united in marriage to Robert S. Hargis on February 3, 1956 at Noble Center Church in Griswold, IA and to this union was born their daughter, Cheryl Ann.

She worked as an Executive Assistant at Empire Insurance Company, retiring after many years. She then worked part-time for 8 years as a Social Worker at Risen Son.

A big part of Jackie's life was volunteering. She volunteered in the Gift Shop at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, was a Sunday School Teacher; and her biggest passion was managing Sequels Thrift Store for Hope Net Ministries, where she made many friends. She cared deeply for her family and many might remember seeing her walking her dog, Scooter on Valley View Drive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Judy Bevins.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Robert S. Hargis of Council Bluffs, IA; her daughter, Cheryl A. (Brian) Andersen of Council Bluffs; granddaughter, Jamie L. (Alex) Gum of Council Bluffs; brothers, Phalen G. Schuler and Milo Schuler; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25, 2024. Interment is in the Lewis Township Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hope-Net Ministries, Salem United Methodist Church, or Midlands Humane Society.
