James. F. Lawless, age 88, passed away October 22, 2013. He was born in Harlan, Iowa on November 7, 1924. James graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was a combat veteran of the Army Air Corp, serving as a meteorologist in India during WWII. He was married December 10, 1947 to Betty Thallas and had 3 sons. He enjoyed woodworking, watching football and professional wrestling on TV, but mostly enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. Early in his career he was a mechanic for the City of Council Bluffs and later became a cost accountant for Fairmont Foods. He will be remembered for his high intelligence, quick wit, unfailing memory, his patriotism, his easy going attitude and his willingness to help family and friends, no matter what they needed. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Lawless and Nellie (Scott) Morris; brother, Joseph; sister, Jesse Camerrer. James is survived by his wife, Betty Lawless; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack & Sharon lawless, Terry & Mindy Lawless and James lawless; sisters, Marjory Larsen, Marilyn Jane Jagau and Wilma Pilmore; 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; many other family and friends. Visitation is Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Saturday 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment is in Ridgewood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
