James "Jim" Lester Herman

James Jim L. Herman, age 85, of Council Bluffs passed away August 8, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha. Jim served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in May 1952. He worked as a barber for many years in Omaha and as a salesman at Sears for 14 years. He then worked for the City of Council Bluffs Parks Department and Public Works as an equipment operator. After retiring at age 65, Jim & Bonnie delivered vehicles for Tim O'Neill Chevrolet for ten years, driving all over the country. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Donald Miller; grandson, Donald Miller II, and sister, Naomi Belt. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lavonne Bonnie Herman; daughters: Dianne Bass (Steven), Sherril Brown, and Sandra Neighbors (Kevin); son, James Herman; daughter-in-law, Margit Miller; grandchildren: Kevin Croson, Eric Miller, Danny Croson, Sara Bass, Nicole Neighbors, Megan Downing, Ryan Neighbors, Jessica Clark, Krystal Brown, Stephany Points, and Calvin Herman; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Joan Peterson (Gary) and Charlotte Morris (Don); brother, Bill Herman (Leona); brother-in-law, Carl Belt; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday 1-2PM with a memorial service to begin at 2 PM all at Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. A luncheon to follow the service in the Hoy-Kilnoski Community room.
