James Nelson

James "Jim" Burton Nelson, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, Age 82 , of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on March 29, 1942, son of the late Lyle and Esther "Tootie" (Ferris) Nelson. Jim's greatest accomplishment was his marriage. It was a love story.

They met at Norfolk Memorial hospital. He saw her blue eyes and smile and he was in love. Jim wooed her with flowers and left notes on her nurse's cap. They both became nurses and were married for 63 glorious years. They loved the family they created together. So, when Ruth passed away on August 5 - it was not too startling that Jim followed her 25 days later. They are together again.

Survived by his children; daughter Angela (Russ) Higgins of Westminster, CO; son Jim (Joy) Nelson of Groveport, OH; daughter Jane (Leon) Altman of Grimes, IA; daughter Rachel (Mark) Duncan of Leesburg, OH; granddaughters Ashley, Stephanie, Jamie, Jaz, Shaleigh, and Emma, and grandsons Jake, JD, and AJ. Jim will also be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, family, friends, and his 2 great-grandsons Paul and Easton.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date. All memorial contributions should be sent to Echo Hills - Assisted Living and Memory Care, 14509 Echo Hills Drive, LaVista, NE 68138 - to support their Activity Program/Recreational Therapy.
