James W. Gardner

James W. Gardner, age 83 passed away July 10, 2013 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jim was born March 3, 1930 in Maxwell, Iowa to the late Charles and Maude (See) Gardner. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving our country during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Rock Island Railroad for over 27 years, the Iowa Interstate Railroad and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1992. Jim was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, baptized and confirmed in 2002. He was a volunteer at the Food Pantry for many years and also an avid hunter, bowler and loved his tractors. If you ever needed help, he would be there. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Larry, Maudie Peg, Kathryn, Dale, Willis, Harold and twin, George, Kenneth, Lucille, Donald and Gail Mick. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia; daughters, Rhonda Kirke (Michael Kilbane), Jamie Reid (Ron); son, James J. Gardner; grandsons, Christopher Kirke (Sarah), Jacob Reid (Kristen), Jonathan Reid (Ashley); great grandchildren, Audri and Ella Reid, Brayden Wagaman and Tegan Kirke; sister, Martha O’Neil (Ronald); brother, Wayne Gardner (Dorothy); special nieces, nephews and all of his Christian friends at Our Savior’s. Private family services. Memorials are suggested to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 600 Bluff Street, Council Bluffs, IA 51503.
