Jeffery E. Nelson

Jeffery Edwin Nelson, age 65, passed away peacefully in his childhood home February 28, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Jeff was born June 5, 1958 to Dorothy (Nelson) Thomas in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was raised in Council Bluffs where he worked alongside his father, Guy Thomas Sr., and brothers in the family garbage truck business. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1978. After six years in the Marine Corps, he settled in Huffman, TX where he and his wife, Erica started driving big rigs over the road. 

In addition to his parents, Guy Sr. and Dorothy Thomas, he was preceded in death by his wife, Erica Mooreland; sisters, Barbara “Tootie” (Les) Adams, Bonnie Charmaine Thomas Rigby-Gray; brothers, James “Jamie” Michael Thomas, and 

Markel Lynn Thomas.

Jeff is survived by his aunt, Deborah Nelson, of Council Bluffs; brothers, Lafe (Sally) Thomas, of Council Bluffs, Guy Thomas Jr., of Moorehead, MN, James “Bim” (Greta) Myers, of Moorehead, MN; sisters, Karen (Dale) Schneidewind, of Council Bluffs, Mary (Keith) Myers-Kasprick, of Fargo, ND; brother-in-law, Walter Lee; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life April 6, 2024, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Mile Away, 20270 Old Lincoln Hwy, Council Bluffs.
