Jim W. Meyer, age 83, passed away May 15, 2016. He was born a twin in Council Bluffs on February 24, 1933 to the late Henry O. and Virginia W. Meyer. Jim graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class of 1951. He attended college at the University of Miami and the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jim worked for his parents at the Meyer Funeral Home and eventually became its owner until 1997, when he sold the mortuary. In addition to Meyer Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, hed owned Woodring Funeral Home, Troia Funeral Home in Omaha and Raynor Funeral Home in Glenwood. He was particularly fond of his beloved Meyer Landing along the Missouri River. Throughout his life, he was very involved in the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board and the Council Bluffs Business Association to name a few. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Hank Meyer Jr. Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda K. Meyer; son, Michael Meyer and his wife, Olga; daughter, Laura and her husband, David Buntain; twin brother, John Meyer and his wife, Mary; granddaughters, Stephanie Laramey and her husband, Robert, Elisa Lococo and fiancé, Tim Fowler; 3 great grandsons, Henry, Thomas and Charles; nieces, a nephew and so many special friends. Visitation is 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment is in the Walnut Hill Cemetery. The family will direct memorials towards conservation in his honor.
