Jimmy A. Cavanaugh, 83, of Council Bluffs, passed away on November 20, 2019. Jim was born on February 22, 1936 in Atlantic, Iowa to the late George and Mabelle (Andersen) Cavanaugh. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1954.
Jim married the love of his life, Josephine “Jo” Jagger on September 13, 1956. To this union, they were blessed with 3 children: Mark, Diana and Vicki. They remained together and happy for 62 wonderful years.
Jim worked for Bemis Bags Inc. as a shipping clerk for 40 years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church and along with his wife, Jo, they taught Sunday school for 47 years. He loved his Iowa Hawkeyes, Pittsburg Pirates and attending and tailgating at the college world series for many years. He also loved to put jig saw puzzles together and could often be found working on one when visiting him. He dearly loved his family and worked hard his whole life to protect and support them in all their endeavors.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jo in June of this year; brothers, George Jr and Edward.
The living legacy he leaves behind are son, Mark (Peggy) Cavanaugh; daughters, Diana (Fred) Turnbeaugh and Vicki Cavanaugh; grandchildren, Karen (Sterling) Lehmer; Jon Turnbeaugh (Rob Mathews); Anthony (Hailey); Michael (Shelly); Thomas and Kevin Mendicino; Mindi, Ashley and Eric Cavanaugh; great-grandchildren, Cooper Lehmer; Vincent, Zeppelin, Macon and Theodore Mendicino; sisters, Rosalie (Lloyd) Cron and Rita Ford; nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Memorial Service is Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A lunch will follow. Private Burial at North Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Council Bluffs.
