Joan Saar of Treynor, Iowa passed away August 22, 2023.
She was born in Kirkland, Washington on January 20, 1935 to Carl and Emily (Harsch) Goldapp. When she was a young girl, her parents returned to Germany to take over the family farm. With the onset of World War II, her parents decided to return to the U.S., escaping through Italy. Upon returning, they settled in Omaha for a short time. Her parents then purchased a Motel in Phoenix, AZ, where she entered school. After a few years, her parents sold the Motel and purchased a Wheat Farm in Kendall, KS. A few years later, her father purchased the IHC Dealership in Council Bluffs. The family then moved to Lake Manawa. In 1947, her parents sold the Implement Business and purchased a farm near Treynor, where she attended Country School. Joan graduated from Treynor High School in 1953, where she was a Cheerleader and member of the Band for four years.
On November 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Saar. Joan and Don moved to San Bernardino, CA, where Don was stationed in the U.S.A.F. In 1955, they returned to Treynor and started farming. She was a wonderful mother, homemaker and companion. Joan loved decorating her house for Christmas and her Flowers. She drove a School Bus for Treynor for 36 years. She loved her job and the kids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Roy Saar (1986) and Scott Carl Saar (2009); sister, Emily Storey; brothers-in-law, Bob Saar and Don Kramer; sister-in-law, Marion Saar.
Joan is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald L. Saar; sons, Richard (Debbie) Saar of Treynor, Cary (Betty) Saar of Treynor, Jeffrey (Janet) Saar of Omaha; daughters, Jane (John) Hausen of Villisca, IA, Lisa (Brett) Christensen of Silver City, IA; and Amy (Steven) Owens of Treynor; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Jean Kramer of Mishawaka, IN; brother-in-law, Ralph Storey of Plattsmouth, NE; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Gary Underwood of New York; and many friends and relatives.
Visitation will be held from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor on Monday, August 28, 2023.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Interment is in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Treynor. Memorials are suggested to Treynor Fire and Rescue or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
