Joann Blocker

JoAnn Blocker, age 80, passed away August 16, 2020.

She was born on February 23, 1940 to the late Leo and Wilma (Hays) Fleming in Marion, Utah.

As a young child the family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated in 1958 from AL High School. She retired from Kellogg’s in 2001 after 25 years of service. She was a very devoted wife and loved her husband and children with her whole heart. Her greatest achievement was raising three daughters to become successful and compassionate women, just like her.

JoAnn loved planning and hosting family and social gatherings where she could spend time with her family, friends, and classmates. She was the life of the party even though that was never her intent. She enjoyed many different hobbies from, wedding planning and decorating, including making all the cakes, crocheting, bowling, reading, Girl Scout leader, reading her bible and working on crossword puzzles; but what she enjoyed most of all was creating and involving her husband in all of them, whether he wanted to be or not.

JoAnn was living with her husband at Heritage Fox Run for the past year, and under hospice care and care of the Fox Run staff for the past 6- and one-half months.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her brother, Ted Fleming.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Donald Blocker; daughters, Penny Darnell (Pat), of CB, Tracy Bruun (Tom), of Ankeny IA and Wendy Scherzinger (Rudy) of Hurricane Mills TN; siblings: brothers, Leo Fleming (Norma) of CB and Perry Fleming (Kim Kissel Life mate) MO; brothers-in-law, Henry Blocker (Ginny) of UT, Marvin Blocker (Sharon) NE and sister-in-law Linda Baker of AZ; grandchildren: Jonathan Neal (Jessica) of CB, Nickole Cullen (Jacob) of NE, Derek Bruun (Carolyn Jennrich, girlfriend) of MN, Shelby Bruun (Collin boyfriend), IN, McKenzie Scherzinger, TN, Bryan Darnell (Morgan) of VA and Nolan Darnell (Maddie) of CB; five great grandkids, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she enjoyed time with.

Funeral Service is 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Service with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment is in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Bethany Presbyterian Church.

The family requests masks to be worn and social distancing be observed by those attending the events.
