John E. Neighbors, 83 years, died March 7, 2017 at the Fremont Health and Medical Center in Fremont, Nebraska.
He was born April 4, 1933 in Albion, Nebraska to John and Martha (Boyd) Neighbors. He served in the Air Force four years. He then worked for Ready Mix and the State Highway Commission, retiring in 1981. He played lead guitar for bands in and around Omaha and Council Bluffs for 60 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Lois Redding Neighbors; his brothers, Farmer, Loren, Arthur, Oscar, Leslie, Jerald and Dale Neighbors; sisters, Lela Johnson, Lena Brockman, Dorothy Moore, and Alice Elshire; 1 grandson.
He is survived by his significant other, Helen Shelton; three daughters, Delores Olsen, Denise Neighbors and Dorrine Awe; one son, David Neighbors; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane Mathews; a host of nieces, nephews and loads of friends.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Hoy–Kilnoski Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Monday, 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
