Keith Edwin Burgett was born September 30, 1932 in Sioux Falls, SD.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Erma Burgett; son, Joel Cameron Burgett; and brother-in-law, Dwayne Pittman.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Burgett; brother and his wife, Glen and Ruby Burgett; brother, Carroll Burgett; sister, Charlotte Pittman; daughter and her husband, Pam and Mike Conry; daughter-in-law, Marlys Burgett; grandchildren, Nick and Ali Conry, Shelby Conry, Seth and Chloe Burgett; and many other loved ones and friends.
Keith grew up on a farm in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He excelled in academics and football. He received a full ride scholarship to Drake University where he received a BS in Political Science with a minor in Horticulture. He was a veteran in the Army serving his country in Germany and upon his return finished law school at the University of Iowa.
He began his law practice in Oakland, Iowa. He then became a District Court Judge for 25 years before his retirement in 2003. During his Judgeship, he started the first drug court and alternative treatment program for substance abuse instead of prison.
He was a Master Gardener and enjoyed collecting antiques, and vegetable and flower gardening. Keith and Marsha loved traveling Europe together.
Memorial service is 11:00a.m. on Tuesday October 23, 2018 at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Josie Harper Residence Hospice House, Omaha, NE or The Alzheimer’s Association.
