Kim Elder

Kim Elder, age 67, passed away at Nebraska Medicine on May 19, 2023.

He was born July 11, 1955, to the late Elwood and Loretta (Cahill) Elder in Council Bluffs, IA. Kim graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class of 1974. He was very active in the metro classic car and racing scene. Kim worked for 24 years at Stauffer Chemical/Zeneca. He then owned and operated Finish Line Auto Wash in Council Bluffs and later was Co-owner of Finish Line Performance.

If there was ever a promoter of Council Bluffs and it’s rich history, it would be Kim Elder. Never missed an opportunity to be a “tour guide” and you may have gotten some of his own personal history in there that you may not have wanted to know as well.

He loved Playland Speedway, cruising Broadway, classic car night, showing off his cars and stock car racing. Always willing to help set up your dirt track or street car. He just loved people, cars and making people smile and laugh.

Kim is going to be greatly missed in so many ways. As he always said “I’m a legend in my own mind!”

Kim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Elder; daughter, Sheila (Matt) Naylor; grandson, Cale Naylor; sisters, Connie Leaders and Trudy Johnson; mother-in-law, Joan B. Hatfield; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.

One of Kim's favorite events was Classic Cruise In at the Quaker Steak and Lube, so to celebrate his life, there will be a visitation beginning at 2:00 PM and the celebration will continue into the evening at Quaker Steak and Lube on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials in Kim’s honor.
