Larry L. Diamond, age 77, passed away on June 10, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on June 7, 1946, to the late Floyd M. and Betty J. (Hamilton) Diamond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd E. Diamond, and his sister, Pamela S. Edwards.
Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Melody Diamond; children, Ty Diamond (Nanette), Traci Diamond, and Tara Sommerville; grandchildren, Maddie Wehrmacher (Chris), Nico Diamond, Cloie Diamond, Ian Sommerville, Gage Sommerville, Gavin Sommerville, and Olivia Sommerville and great-granddaughter, Nyx Elise Wehrmacher; his beloved dog Gunner; and a host of other family and friends.
Larry grew up in Council Bluffs, IA and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School with the class of 1964. He was in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war and served on the USS Aludra AF-55 being honorably discharged in May 1967. He was extremely patriotic and loved the USA. Larry was on the Council Bluffs Police Department from 1968 until 1977. He then was employed by Mid-American Energy Company until he retired in 2006.
Larry was a child of God who accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior on May 7, 1974, and was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Country church. He loved family, friends, motorcycle trips, traveling, karate, fishing, and bow-hunting. He loved music and singing, and dancing with his wife. He never lost his sense of humor even when he was struggling with health issues and was an inspiration to many.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
Burial will be at St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church Cemetery, 11055 Dumfries Ave, Council Bluffs, IA.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church.
