Linda Johnson

Linda C. Johnson, age 73, passed away on March 29, 2024.

She was born April 18, 1950, to the late Donald and Eunice (Williams) Sturm in Council Bluffs, IA. Linda graduated from Missouri Valley High School with the class of 1968.

After high school Linda was married to the love of her life, Gary, on August 23, 1968. Gary and Linda lived in Rapid City, SD until December of 1969 when they moved to Council Bluffs, where they started their family and resided for much of their married life. While the kids were little, Linda was a stay-at-home mom and ran an in-home daycare. After the kids started school, Linda went to work at Kmart in Council Bluffs, where she worked for 18 years. Linda left Kmart to work for US Bank, where she retired from in 2012.

Linda enjoyed bowling and playing bunko.  Her and Gary loved to go camping as a family.  Their favorite vacations were the many cruises they went on and trips to Florida.  Linda valued most-spending time with her family.  Her favorite times were those spent at family gatherings-holidays, baking days, playing dominoes and cards.  Linda and Gary loved to go dancing, they drove all over Western Iowa to enjoy live music and dancing.  Linda's greatest joy came from being a Grandma. 

After fighting a long battle at home, Linda moved to the Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley where the staff welcomed her like family.  She lived at Longview for almost 5 years.  During this time Linda and Gary created lasting relationships with many of the staff and were endlessly appreciative of the love and support they received from the employees there.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Sturm; sister, Debbie Settlemyer.

Linda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gary Johnson; children, Melissa (Mark Samaniego) Berg and Scott (Michaela) Johnson; siblings, Sharon McKray, Cindy (John) Nourse, Susie (Ray) Hill, and Rick Sturm; grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Kara (Wyatt) Lambries, Kourtney Berg, Nicholas Berg, Paige Samaniego, and Emma Samaniego; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 03, 2024.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Thursday, April 4, 2024. The family will direct memorials.
