Linda Kay

Linda Diane (Rodenburg) Kay was born June 9, 1946 at Jennie Edmundson in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the oldest of four children. Linda grew up on a farm near Bentley, Iowa. She walked to York #9 Country School until 3rd grade when it closed. She then went to Underwood Community School until the family moved to Minden, Iowa. Linda finished school at Tri-Center graduating in 1964.

Linda worked at McMartin Industries Incorporated of Omaha. She then lived with her Aunt Jean in Omaha, Nebraska for a year while working at Mutual of Omaha. Linda met her love Ronny Kay at dance lessons in Minden. She married Ronny one month after he returned from the Army. They were married June 9, 1967 at the Shelby Methodist Church in Shelby, Iowa. They lived with Ronny's parents on a farm southeast of Minden for  about a year until they moved to the Kay family farm down the road. They are parents of four children: Roger, Dale, Ronda, Randy.

Linda stayed home caring for the children and helping Ronny with the farm and livestock. Once the kids were out of school, Linda worked as a resident counselor for REM Leadway in Shelby for 14 years until retiring in 2017.

Linda had a kind heart and loved her family with all of it. She loved caring for her kids and grandkids. Linda loved getting together with family during the holidays. She loved going on drives with Ronny and eating out with family and friends. You could usually catch her and Ronny watching an old western together.

Linda was a long time Minden Legion Auxiliary Unit 437 member. She was a member of the Silver Creek Methodist Church and her and Ronny were part of the Wedded Band. Linda enjoyed her time with the ladies in the Friendly Links Club.

Linda passed away February 17, 2025 at Northcrest Living Center in Council Bluffs, having attained the age of 78 years, 8 months, 8 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Imogene Rodenburg; her brother Mike Rodenburg.

Linda is survived by her husband Ronny Kay of Minden, IA; her children, Roger (Brenda) Kay of Minden, IA, Dale (Shari) Kay of Shelby, IA, Ronda (Lelyn) Holtz of Avoca, IA, Randy Kay of Minden, IA; 8 grandchildren, Sabrina Butcher (Ethan Bearley), Katlyn (Ethan) Patzner, Brittany (Devon) Griffis, Marissa Kay (Zach Hagadon), Chelsea (James) Chew, Jaysen Kay, Emily Kay, Lily Duncan; 4 great grandchildren, Easton Griffis, Zuri Patzner, Malani Kay, Malichi Kay and #5 due in April; sisters, Sharon (Bob) Siebels of Minden, IA, Pat (Mark) Cavanaugh of Midlothian, TX; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Silver Creek United Methodist Church on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Minden Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Minden American Legion or Silver Creek UMC.
