Margaret H. Soar

Margaret H. Soar, age 91, of Council Bluffs passed away March 9, 2015 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. She was born in McClelland, Iowa on February 11, 1924 to the late Edward and Rosa (Herms) Torneten. On May 18, 1944, Margaret was united in marriage to Charles H. Soar, Jr. at St. Peters Parish House in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She worked as a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital for 23 years. Margaret had a love of music and played the piano. She was often thought of as Mom to several neighborhood children. A gentle ear to listen, a pot of coffee and treats were always available. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Soar Jr.; daughter, Maureen Rose Soar; sisters, Charlotte Ring, Mary Jones, Clara McCauley, Theresa Mercer, Mary Ann Mahan; brothers, Conrad Torneten and Edward Torneten. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Joyce and her husband, Richard Christensen, Kathleen and her husband, Robert Binderup, Barbara and her husband, Mike Nielsen, Pat Mooberry, Lorrraine and her husband, Geoffrey Thiele; son, Ernie and his wife, Julie Soar; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Rosary recitation is Wednesday (this evening) 5:30 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday 11:00 a.m., St. Peters Catholic Church #1 Bluff Street in Council Bluffs. Interment is in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
