Marlys Jean Langholz, age 82, passed away peacefully June 29th, 2017 at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. She was born on July 17, 1934 in Correctionville, IA to the late Chrissie and Amanda Camarigg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Langholz; and sons, Mark and Steve Langholz. She is survived by her children: Rickie Langholz, Patsy (Michael) Martin, Mary Jo (Coit) Valentine, Lori Lynn (Kirk) Ahrends, Neil Langholz, and Eric Langholz; daughter-in-laws, Sue and Terri Langholz; 9 grandchildren, Shane, Tosten, Autumn, Ashlee, Travis, Tammy, Paul, Michael, and Norah; one great grandson on the way; brothers, Dean (Judy) Camarigg and Craig (Cornelia)Camarigg; treasured mothers of grandchildren, Deb Powers and April Lynch; and many friends.
Marlys grew up in Correctionville where she lived on a farm and attended a country school. Her family moved to Washta and then to Sheldon when she was 12 years old. When she married Lyle in 1950 they settled on the farm in Primghar Iowa. Here Marlys raised 8 children, and worked in every capacity on the farm. When her husband died in 1974, Marlys still had four children to raise. She worked at the Primghar school preparing and serving lunch for three years and then began her long career at Superior Grease Gun Factory which was later named Witco. In retirement, she worked at Brown’s Medical equipment in Spirit Lake where she enjoyed her work, her employers, and the friendships she made there. She worked hard her whole life, and did so with a kind and unselfish heart. Everything she did was for her family.
Marlys was an accomplished gardener. She loved going to Dells in Spencer to browse, choose, and purchase new flowers and supplies for her yard. She was shy, and a great listener, and when you took time to get to know her, she had spunk and wit that would make anyone chuckle. She was passionate about animals, particularly cats and birds, and allowed her children to have many pets, including a racoon and two squirrels. While living and raising her 8 children in Primghar, she was an active and dedicated member of the Grace Lutheran Church. Marlys enjoyed bird watching, reading, playing cards, biking, walking, watching sports,(Cubbies, Yankees, Bulls, Hawkeyes, and the Packers), catching flies in midair, and visiting with her family and friends.
