Merle La Deane Rounds

Merle La Deane Rounds passed away May 4, 2012. She was born July 25, 1922 in Monroe Township to the late Glen & Bertha (Pedersen) Lamer. She graduated from Walnut, Iowa High School and then earned a teaching certificate. She taught for two years in a country school. Merle was a member of the first graduating class of practical nurses at Iowa Western Community College and then practiced at Mercy Hospital retiring in 1984. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rounds Sr.; infant sons, Keith & Kevan Rounds; brother, Ervine Lamer, son-in-law, Joseph Hughes. Merle is survived by her children, Robert Rounds Jr. (Joyce), Diane Hughes, Christi Putnam (Rod), Rick Rounds, Jerry Rounds (Lisa); sister, Phyllis Hansen (Vincent); sister-in-law, Lillian Hughes; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; a host of other family and friends. Visitation is Sunday 4-6PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation is on Monday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a Funeral service at 11:00AM at the Monroe Chapel, Walnut, Iowa. Interment is in the church cemetery. There will be a luncheon at the church immediately following the Committal Service. Memorials are suggested to the Monroe Chapel, The Omaha Home for Boys or American Legion Auxiliary at Walnut, Iowa.
