Michael Loney

Our family is sad to announce that Michael J. Loney - fondly known as Uncle Mike - passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, July 30, 2023, of natural causes.

Michael's life story began in Wahoo, Nebraska where he was born on June 26, 1943 (there is a story). Michael is the youngest of five siblings born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Eulalia Loney. The family established residence in Neola, IA where young Michael made many friends while attending school at St. Joseph's. As a teenager, Michael's adventurous spirit prompted him to enthusiastically influence his mom's decision to move to California - a place they ought to be. So, in 1958 they moved to the Los Angeles area -- eventually Michael called Pasadena, California home where he lived, worked and played all the days of his life.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents (Mr. and Mrs Charles & Eulalia Loney) and his brother and sisters: Charles Loney, Jean Hall, Joan Mattingly, Joyce Eckmann. Surviving family include his sister-in-law, Luci Loney (Charles), Aunt Mary Martin, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins (both once and twice removed...), brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, as so many loved ones who must, because of tradition, remain anonymous.

Memorable moments and accomplishments for Michael include being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Playing the piano. Serving in U.S. Army. Working and retiring from the U.S. Postal Service. Praying for you and with you.

As testimony to Michael's spirit: He was an integral part of a men's home. Mike had a good habit of always praying with others at the end of conversations which brought peace and a spiritual bond. He would always share his faith and experience with new residents who were moving into the house. Over the years Mike regularly contributed to the church at Starting Over. Thoughts of him bring a smile, and he will be greatly missed. But our faith reminds us he is with Jesus alongside our Heavenly Father!

The family acknowledges the faithful who have helped Michael to live out his life's story where he depended on unity of those practicing principles before personalities to serve others for the glory of God.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Neola, IA on September 2nd at 11:00AM. The mass will also be live streamed on the funeral home's website.
