Monte Christensen

Monte Lee Christensen, age 81, of Council Bluffs, passed away on November 3, 2024 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born at home in Council Bluffs, on July 5, 1943 to Chris and Viola (Petersen) Christensen.

After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1961, Monte served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Cold War, Cuban Crisis and in the early Vietnam era at sea aboard the U.S.S. Bausell as an electronics technician.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #2 and C.B. Fish and Game Club. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone, AT&T and USWEST, retiring after 30 years of service. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball for over 43 years in Council Bluffs and Albuquerque, N.M. He started the C.B. Warriors in 1978 with 12 & 13 year olds and later expanded to ages 9 through 15. He also coached spring and fall baseball for A.L. and T.J.

"I thank all the parents and relatives who allowed me the privilege to coach their kids. I had a ball!!"

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Shirley Ann Limburg, Donald Eugene, twins Richard Louis and Robert James and Norman DeWayne.

Monte is survived by his sister: Donna "Jean" Martin; "step-kids": James Gates, Brian Tadlock, Lisa Stapelton, Bradley Stapleton, Gabe Christensen, Matt Rea, Harley Brown and Omar Vargas; step grandkids; nieces: Teri Cambron, Cindy Mayer, Kelly Moehn, Jodi Nixon and Ronda Schiltz; nephews: Kenneth Martin and Steven Christensen; great and great-great nieces and nephews and many friends.

I'll be waiting for you at the ballpark in the sky!!!

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home, on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Graveside service will be at 10AM on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
